Makeup Application–Lips

Time for the final post on makeup application–lips.

For thin lips:

  1. Apply a lip primer on lips, inside and outside your lip line.  Allow to dry.
  2. Erase the existing lip line by apply concealer or foundation to the lips.
  3. Use lip liner to draw a line slightly above the natural top lip and around the bottom lip lines.  Fill in lips completely with lip liner to create a matte base that helps increase lipstick wear.
  4. Dab a small amount of concealer to the center of the top and bottom lips.
  5. Apply lipstick.
  6. Finish by applying lip gloss to the center of the top and bottom lips to help make lips appear fuller.

For medium lips:

  1. Apply lip primer to preven feathering and bleeding.  Allow to dry.
  2. Using lip liner, define the V-shape at the center of the top lip along the natural lip line.  Bring the line to the corners of the lips using short, feathering strokes.  Next, define the center of the bottom lip.  To complete the line, start from the corners and draw a line in toward the center.
  3. To extend the wear of lipstick, create a matte base by filling in the top and bottom lips with a lip liner.  Apply lipstick to the top lip first, starting at the center and sweeping to the corners.  Add color to the bottom lip from corner to corner.  Gently press lips together.
  4. Sweep a coordinating color of lip gloss along the top and bottom lips in the same techniques as the lipstick.  Or, to give lips the appearance of a fuller pout, apply lip gloss to the center only of top and bottom lips.

For full lips:

  1. Apply lip liner to lips, inside and outside your lip line.  Allow to dry.
  2. Erase the existing lip line by applying concealer or foundation over it.
  3. Use lip liner to draw a line slightly inside the natural top and around the bottom lip line.  Fill in lips completely with lip liner to create a matte base.
  4. Apply lipstick.
  5. Finish with lip gloss applied in a light coat evenly over lips.

  1. I definitely have thin lips. What is a primer? Is it something only Mary Kay sells? I love Satin Lips. I can tell you that much LOL!

My lips are already so dark that I feel like I don’t need lipstick, which could be true, but I love lipstick! Prob is, bc my lips are already so dark I feel like lipstick looks so stupid on me! Any advice on that one?

  2. Primer are something you put on to keep lipliner/stick from bleeding. Mary Kay’s is also age fighting. Other companies do sell similar products, though.

You could probably just use a natural lip liner and lip gloss since your lips are so dark. I definitely wouldn’t use a dark lipstick at all unless it’s a special occasion. There are lots of shades of lipstick that are light and natural looking if you still want to wear some.
