Ministry Wives Wednesday, Jul 29 2009

O.K.  all my lovely friends out there who have husbands in some kind of ministry (and that should be all of you who are married to believers)–this is for you.  Bill has been in vocational ministry roles for most of our marriage.  Though not vocational anymore, his ministry responsibilities at Sojourn keep growing.  The more responsibility he’s given, the more nasty things we hear said about/to him.  I know I’m not new to this, but I need some counsel from you ladies who are good at handling these situations.  Ladies like Kacie, Sarah, Julie, you don’t get to sit out on this one without making a comment.  :-)   What do you do to protect your heart from anger or sadness when you hear something hard about your man?  Bill guards me as much as he can, but there are times when someone will just tell me to my face when he isn’t around.  I rarely act in faith in these situations and let it consume me.  It doesn’t help that one of my sins is the fear of man.  I am going through a particularly difficult season right now where I feel like we’re being hit from all sides.

For clarification, though there are definitely many times Bill has been called to repentence by brothers in his life, I’m talking more about the times that I have found out there was a gossip session about him, times when someone gets angry that he calls out sin in his/her life, or times when someone is simply bitter and takes it out on him for instance.

Weight Tuesday, Jul 28 2009

It’s no surprise that I struggle with my weight.  Most of it is a consequence of my past struggle with gluttony and laziness and because of having four babies in less than four years.  For the last two years, God has been gracious to help me overcome my idolotry of food and rest, and I have been much more honoring to Him with the way I eat by controlling my portions and taking time to truly enjoy the food with which He has blessed me.  I also exercise almost every day and feel great.  Since I have had Miriam, though, I have had several moments of discouragement, especially since I did nothing but gain weight after delivery.  Two of my doctors pointed out that my thyroid looked enlarged, so I was tested.  It turns out that my thyroid levels are fine, but I do have something that is a temporary enlargement of my thyroid that is common for a season after having a baby.  It can cause–you guessed it–weight gain.  The doctor said it should be temporary and to expect to see some changes soon.  Though it was nice to know there was a reason, it has still been difficult to step on the scale and watch no change, so I stopped stepping on it.  Finally, the other day I stepped on again and discoverd I have lost 4 pounds in 4 weeks.  Slow, I know, but I praise God that He is blessing me even in this small thing.  I am not concerned about looking good, but I do want to be healthy and be able to play with my kids (and husband) without it being laborious.  I will try to keep you all posted every once in a while on how things are going.  Sounds interesting, right? ;-)

BTW, I have not stopped my series on homekeeping.  I am still studying and plan on talking about the kitchen sometime soon.

Esther Is… Thursday, Jul 23 2009

walking!!!  For those of you who may not know why that is such a big deal (even though it’s always amazing), Esther has been in physical therapy for 6 months for her large motor skills.  She wasn’t even sitting when she turned one in February, so the fact that she took off walking across the room today when her therapist was here was a true blessing.  Praise God for taking care of our little girl!  She got many kisses all around. :-)

Fourth of July Fun Tuesday, Jul 7 2009

We just got back from one of our best weekends ever!  We spent our time with some dear, dear friends who live way up north in Ohio.  Seriously, these are some of the sweetest friends we have ever been blessed to have.  My beautiful friend and mom of three boys, Kacie, just blogged about the trip and put up several pictures.  You can go see them here.

We are having to detox this week from seeing them, and I keep trying to convince Bill we should move up there.  Maybe he’s saying no because we were offered pop every day, maybe it’s because my accent has become more northern already, or maybe it’s just because as much as he would love to live right by this family, he knows God has called us here for this time.  Regardless of his reasoning, we all miss them terribly and look very forward to next fourth of July.
