Halloween and Apples Friday, Oct 31 2008

We had a great time tonight forming some more relationships with our neighbors as we dressed the kids up and set out seeking candy.  There are many wonderful people who live so close to us, and we are in the process of being more intentional about forming good connections with them.  Tonight was sort of step one for us.  Future intentions are to take evening family walks down the street, to take treats for everyone close to Thanksgiving, and to have an open house around Christmas.

Here are some pics of the kids all dressed up.  The greatest part:  One of our neighbors hadn’t bought any candy, so he ran inside and came back with an apple for each of our kids.  When we got home, Liam and Ariana both began saying, “We want apples!”  Two buckets full of candy, and my kids wanted the nutritious option.  Go figure. :-)

Liam is our greatest lover of music so far.  This morning while I was changing his clothes, he broke out into this song.  Little background, the lyrics are in a children’s book he has, but it’s especially funny to Bill and me because it is also a silly song some of our fellow students in college sang–sometimes at the end of their oh-so-serious senior recitals for some comic relief.  Imagine grown men singing sevaral difficult, opera style pieces of repertoire, then finishing it all off by doing their greatest impersonations of farm animal noises.  Priceless!  Anyway, here is my son’s first step for singing at the Met.  Of course before I recorded him he sang the whole thing, but I was happy to get one verse from him on command.  You’ll also hear Ariana at the end saying, “I wanna we Nahnah.” (I want to record Ariana)
